This friend is mentioned a lot but doesn't actually matter to the story much. Naruto has a chakra sickness because he's a jinchuriki with the chakra of all bijuu in him and the only way to cure it is using polar particles from a meteor the Sage of Six Paths found on his travels in Redaku with his blind astronomer friend. The actual story was odd and in the middle I just didn't care about what was going on. Amidst the strange plot is a lot of sweet moments between Naruto, his family, friends and a scientist who definitely has a crush on him- who can blame her? Although, I don't think you'd need to read the other two to read this one because you kind of get the gist about what Kakashi and Sasuke/Sakura have been up to. The first two concern events that lead onto the end of this book and they fit together. The Naruto Retsuden light novels are different to all the previous because they all follow the same story like a traditional book trilogy.
